Nestled in the vibrant heart of Badung, Bali, ZZ Villas is a private sanctuary that blends serene living with luxury aesthetics. Commissioned by our client Borian, this project exemplifies Mafaza Living’s commitment to timeless craftsmanship, functional elegance, and material authenticity. From conceptual detailing to final installation, every element of this project was meticulously designed and executed to serve both form and purpose.
At ZZ Villas, our focus was to create an atmosphere of balance, where architecture, furniture, lighting, and layout come together as one cohesive language. By integrating handcrafted teak wood elements and custom fittings, we achieved a seamless interior flow that mirrors the villa’s tranquil yet sophisticated ambiance.
Design Philosophy: Harmony in Detail
The heart of this project lies in its harmony between materials and lighting. Each space within ZZ Villas was treated not merely as a room, but as a canvas where textures, shapes, and tones converge. The custom wardrobe unit and drawers were designed to embody this principle, inviting both warmth and structure into the bedroom setting.
A balance between sleek minimalism and traditional craft was essential. While the architecture featured strong contemporary lines, our approach introduced subtle tactile elements through rattan weaving, soft wood grains, and muted finishes. The result? A space that feels clean yet soulful; restrained but never sterile.
Wardrobe Design: Bespoke Meets Practical
The custom wardrobe system in this project was crafted using sustainably sourced solid teak and natural rattan webbing, creating a statement piece that is both functional and artisanal. Sliding doors with seamless joinery techniques were chosen not only for their aesthetic appeal but also to optimize space and ease of access.
The upper panels were elevated with airy rattan inserts to introduce texture, light permeability, and cultural relevance, paying subtle homage to Indonesia’s traditional design heritage. Integrated handles ensure an uninterrupted facade while maintaining usability, offering a minimalist look that resonates with modern sensibilities.
Drawer Unit: Everyday Luxury
Adjacent to the wardrobe is a meticulously crafted drawer unit, designed for daily use without sacrificing elegance. The clean-cut profile, natural wood tones, and smooth-sliding drawers speak to the power of restraint and attention to finish. Every surface was sanded and sealed by hand, offering both visual softness and tactile satisfaction.
These drawers aren't just storage; they are a functional design statement. Built with dovetail joinery and anti-warping treatments, the construction ensures longevity in a coastal climate like Bali. Each drawer operates on concealed tracks with silent-close features, highlighting our technical precision behind the minimalist form.
Material Selection: Natural, Durable, Authentic
All furniture pieces were built using teak sourced from legal plantations. Teak was chosen not only for its strength and durability but also for its rich golden hue and fine grain that matures beautifully over time. Combined with natural rattan and water-based finishing, we prioritized low-VOC, environmentally friendly solutions without compromising luxury.
The use of organic materials creates an inherent warmth that’s hard to replicate with synthetics. Their imperfections, patinas, and natural marks are celebrated, not hidden, because luxury lies in authenticity.
Challenges & Custom Solutions
Working in a tropical, humid climate like Bali presents unique challenges. From the outset, we engineered every component to resist warping, swelling, and material fatigue. The sliding mechanisms were treated with corrosion-resistant finishes, and the rattan weaving was hand-selected and reinforced to handle coastal humidity without losing its tautness.
We also adapted our installation strategy to align with the villa’s construction timeline, delivering and assembling each unit with precision and care, ensuring zero compromise on fit or finish.
